PROVIDENCE – A federal judge sentenced a Woonsocket man to eight and a half years in federal prison for his participation in a drug trafficking organization that shipped cocaine between Puerto Rico and Rhode Island. William Lugo, 32, pleaded guilty in May to charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, unlawful use of the U.S. mail and being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, according to the U.S. District Court of Rhode Island. Lugo was arrested and charged in July of 2020 along with five other Rhode Island-based coconspirators, two of whom were also from Woonsocket.
