The Rhode Island Department of Housing said Monday it has identified locations for and funded more than 100 new shelter beds to allow the closing of the Cranston Street Armory in Providence by the end of the day. The new beds are in spaces in Woonsocket, North Smithfield, and Providence, plus the 55 beds previously announced at the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick, according to a news release. The Community Care Alliance is set to open 40 new shelter rooms spread across a hotel in Woonsocket and two hotels in North Smithfield.
